Using a dictionary
In the years of correcting papers, listening to speeches and having conversations with my students, I'm constantly amused by how much their electronic dictionaries hinder as well as help them.
A word that may fit their sentiment perfectly in Japanese, when translated to the best of a dictionary's ability, may change the statement entirely.
It's after experiencing this that I've become hesitant to use MY dictionary as often as I use to in casual conversation with Japanese people.
For example, when correcting diaries today a student had written:
"When I become 20 years old I want to get married. I'll live an enjoyable life, because a delusion is very fun."
She's right of course, but I don't think she's experienced enough in life to know that for sure. The dictionary just made her a cynic.

I think I'm making my nickname "The Dictionary".
