Months? I'm sorry, what?

I've been in the United States since the beginning of August. And tomorrow is Halloween? What?!
Maybe it's just that I'm getting older, or maybe Terrence McKenna is right and time is speeding up...
Though I've been living in New York City (Brooklyn for the Burrough-heads out there) for 2 months, I still wake up living in Shimane. Some afternoon in the beginning of October, the sunlight on our street was turning everything a lavender/orange and I thought to myself "today would be a good day to drive through Sakurae or to Arifuku onsen." Then, suddenly, painfully, reality struck. All of my routines, favorite restaurants, favorite walks/drives, exist thousands of miles away, and part of me remains there. Even as I look out our window at the older Polish man and hear the buses lumber down Manhattan Ave, I consider both fresh soba and gross carbonara within reach.
I'm convinced no one reads this blog anymore, considering I'm in better touch with people back home now that I'm on the same soil. However, I plan on starting a new blog (using a different site) very soon, and will post that address here for your reference. I'll be keeping this blog alive for a little while so I can save the writing and link to friends still in Japan, but don't expect many updates.
I'm currently living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with David, enjoying the little surprises that living in Brooklyn and WITH another person brings. I'm currently working as a receptionist for a Hedge Fund (people are in a great mood around here, believe me). I know it's not nearly as fulfilling or exciting as teaching alongside great Japanese teachers and befriending hilarious students, but it's a job. If they hire me full-time, it will fully fund the lifestyle I'd like to create for myself here. I want to be able to afford rent, healthcare and go back to school. Not too much to ask, but in these times it's a fortune.
So here I am, content to explore, but daydreaming about Gotsu.
Shoot me an email when you can, it'd be great to hear from you.

You'd be surprised, I'm betting, how many people regularly read your blog and still do even though you're no longer in Japan. You may even be surprised to know who was reading it. Regardless, I hope you do start a new blog soon. You are a gifted writer. Welcome back to the states.

will def eat some soba for you!!! Found an amazing restaurant close to my town. 4th year and still discovering new places! Gotta love Shimane!
Missing our random meetings....never really hung out much, but for some really strange reason, it seemed like we already knew each other.
Glad to hear you're well....good luck with the job/reality. You'll be great, cause you are great!
Hugs from Higashi izumo!
Carole
